It's believed the shell was originally built by Matter, as per all E36 shells, and delivered to BMW's Regensburg facility to be used as a development prototype. This is reflected in the unusual chassis plate and chassis number that although of similar format is out of sequence with other cars of that era.

Once the car was no longer required for development work it was transferred to BMW Motorsport Australia to be used as a spare car, however the car was never needed and therefore raced.

Purchased by Justin Wade in 2005, fitted with M3 mechanicals are run in the Queensland Improved Production series.

In 2011 the car was sold to Jason Clement, who continued to run it in the Improved Production series.
