History
One of a number of Japanesse-spec cars built by MSD. These cars used the JDM bodyshell, although had the same running gear as their European counterparts.Used by Mugen Honda as a test and development car and driven by a number of drivers including 1996 JTCC champion Naoki Hattori, although the car never raced.
In 1997 the car was purchased by Honda America, who re-badged it as HART001 and run in the 1997 North American Touring Car Championship for Forrest Granlund, although Peter Cunningham would drive during the Portland. With the cancellation of the NATCC for the following season, the car remained unused for the next 20 years apart from an occasional outing at a local drag strip.
The car was eventually purchased by Nigel Arkell and shipped to New Zealand where it was rebuilt and returned to racing in the Historic Touring Car Series.
